Introduction This appraisal is going to examine a health promotion topic (do you need to examine one rather than just identify?)and further more evaluate a website that has been used to promote the chosen topic. The topic that has been identified is â€Å"Healthy Eating†. This was selected as it as been shown to attribute to an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, some cancers (especially breast, colon and kidney cancers). Likewise, osteoarthritis, back problems, respiratory and sleep disorders, and even infertility. Furthermore, it has also been stated that obesity has trebled in the past two decades costing the NHS an estimated  £4.2 billion in 2007 and set to rise to  £6.3 billion in 2015 (Anon.,†¦show more content†¦They also review health and illness related websites and create a link for service users. This ensures that users are able to access other websites to help them create a wider understanding on healthy eating. UK sites are the primary links in the web directory, as the company feels that residents in the UK prefer to obtain health information from UK sources (patient.co.uk 2010). From reviewing the article, the URL (web address) indicates that the website is an UK based web site, due to the final syllable in the domain name. However the website can all be acknowledged as an organisational website, as it is sponsored by the information standard certification scheme(ref). Which enables more recognition for the Patient.co.uk website to pursue and make a positive impact (Anon,. 2011). This positive impact is created due the fact that the information standard scheme was created by the Department of Health. This ensures that members of the public are able to identify trustworthy health and social care information easily. The scheme reviews all articles that wish to be sponsored. The sponsor then has to review the article to ensure the criteria is accurate, impartial, balanced, evidence-based, accessible and well written. Resultantly, by having the Information Standard Logo indicated on the article, it proves it has met all the required criteria.
